Why rice?

So funny...unfortunate, too since almost every venue I have contacted or been to in today's day and age does not allow you to throw rice anymore...I think the funner fact is that they say you can't throw the rice because the bird's eat it and then their stomach's explode. Anyone else ever heard that one?
